We believe hedge fund managers (absolute return) will continue to attract the brightest and best people in the investment community with often the most talented investment managers found in small investment companies. As our industry has grown, the dispersion of returns between superior and mediocre managers has widened, heightening the need for rigorous manager and fund selection.
It is our view that managers who are freed from the requirement to closely mirror investments or shares held in the recognised indices, and are therefore free to follow their 'best research ideas', tend to have far greater focus on investment disciplines, portfolio construction, and performance.
